I've picked up another E30. This time an 1987 325 (base model) eta, only 142k miles on it, but lots of deferred maint. 5speed of course.
I put in a solid day yesterday and today getting lots done to it, which I'll post about when I have a little more time. Busy finishing the work right now.

I'm still getting to know this E30, even though I've already been into her guts.

Here is a partial list of stuff I've done this week:

steam cleaned engine and part of underneath the car, quickie exterior clean
fix wheel bearing : inner control arm ball joint shot, the wheel bearing fine, pulled complete good arm off my old white shell, cleaned it up, bolted it on
motor mounts: dug through my pile, yep, like new motor mounts pulled from a race car, installed
turn signal lense: old style lense, still have a bunch of those, now it looks like new
fog lights: crusty old lense, checked my stock, found 2 that looked clear and near new, and the wiring is all working perfectly, fixed
sway bar ends: these are old and beatup, dug through my stock, found 2 that are like new, installed

install a different steering rack, hope it fixes the leak - done, no leaks so far
install new tie rods, these are antiques! original I think, the control arm was! - done
install left control arm, those boots are shot also - done
new drivers side control arm bushing - done
install new air filter - done
finish motor mounts - done

do a timing belt job, fix water pump leak, - halfway done, everything is torn apart and cleaned up, just need to reassemble
install old eta radiator I have kicking around, current radiator leaks
install old RA1 tires. Current tires are from 1998, 12 years old!!!
get it registered

I wish I had the time and space... Rolling Eyes

it is enough keeping two cars on the road, let alone building race cars...

It helps being unemployed at the moment for having time for all these projects.

We're also totally remodeling our main floor bathroom and guest bedroom, so I'm keeping busy at the moment. Looking at doing the re-doing the kitchen as well, not sure if/when we'll tackle that.

I should have added in my original posting that I got a fantastic deal on this car from a member of our UBB here, user:bgwavdav aka Steve.

Thanks again Steve!

I finished up the timing belt / water pump / radiator job today, it purrs at idle.

Set the Toe for the front wheels.

Car feels much much better then a week ago, but still have a couple of things remaining before it could be a daily driver.

Color of this car is Cirrus Blue, close to Cosmo Blue, but not quite.

Went to get the car registered today and needs emissions test.
Ran down to emissions testing station and there was zero line, love that.
Code:

                          HC(PPM)    CO(%)     CO+CO2(%)   O2(%)  RPM
Cruise Limit          150             1
Cruise Emissions   64              0.98       16.08          0.39
Cruise Result        Pass           Pass
Idle Limit              220            1.2
Idle Emissions       76             0.52       15.12           1.47    550
Idle Result            Pass           Pass

Dude, paint the bottom strip on the sides matte black. (Or is it already and just dirty?) Not a criticism. Glad you have the time and where withal to save these cars.

Dale,

It looks GREAT! I already miss her. I'm just glad someone was able to get her back up to par (and so quickly!). Nice job!
