Can anyone give me the specific location (pin numbers, wire colors, etc.) of the transmission temperature sensor wires at the TCM? Also, where is the TCM physically located?

There's no temp sensor on a manual, only an auto.

Yes, it is an automatic. The temperature sensor is not working properly, but it is not replaceable on my model (made into the wiring harness inside the transmission). If I could determine which wires from the sensor feed into the TCM I could correct the problem. Also, do you know exactly where the TCM is located? I know it is somewhere in the engine compartment on the right side underneath the cabin filter.

The E39 TCM is the additional board in the DME box, under the right side filter. I believe it's the rear board, but not sure.

Since the car can be had with stick or auto, BMW separated the functions, not like the 7-series, which is only available with an auto. That car has the engine and trans functions on the same board.
