Here are some random notes on the electricals of my swap.

Reference AKG's site for details on the harness adapter. This adapts your E30 harness to the E34/E36 engine harness:

We used an E34 engine wiring harness from a vanos 525i, there may be some wiring code differences between E36 and E34.

Engine Sensor Connections:

Camshaft position sensor:
located on the side of the head by the oil filter cap
yellow: signal to DME pin 17
red/white: 12V
brn/org: ground

Crankshaft position sensor:
located on the front timing cover
black : neg signal to DME pin 43
yellow : pos signal to DME pin 16
no-color: grounds to brn/org

Cyl 1-3 Knock Sensor
located on the block, above the alternator
black: signal to DME pin 70
no-color: grounding shield

Cyl 4-6 Knock Sensor
located on the block, above the starter
black: signal to DME pin 69
no-color: grounding shield

Intake Air Temp Sensor
located in the intake manifold, underneath and to the right of the throttle body
gray: signal to DME pin 77
brown: sensor ground to DME pin 44

Engine Coolant Temp sensor
located under the intake manifold, towards the front, color blue, 2pins
brown/red: signal to DME pin 78
brown: sensor ground to DME pin 44

Throttle Position Sensor
located on the right side of the throttle body
red/yellow: 5V from DME pin 59
brown/black: signal to DME pin 73
brown: sensor ground to DME pin 44

VANOs
located front of valve cover
green/blue: ground through DME pin 7
red/white: 12V

Evap Emissions Valve
brown: ground through DME pin 36
red/white: 12V

Idle Speed Control Valve
located under throttle body
white/green: signal from DME pin 29
white/yellow: signal from DME pin 2
red/white: 12V
