The Cylinder ID signal is provided via an inductive pickup on the #6 ignition wire. The DME uses that signal for injector timing. Without the signal both injector banks fire at the same time. The engine will run okay that way, but tends to run a bit rich.

If the ignition wires on the car don't have the Cylinder ID pickup, you'll need to replace the wires with the correct parts.

As to the idle problem, there are a number of possible causes:

Mis-adjusted valves
Intake leaks
Aged O2 sensor
Bad ignition wires, plugs, distributor rotor/cap
Bad DME temp sensor
Fuel system or injector problems
Bad AFM

I have an idle problem when the car starts. I have to give it some gas sometimes to keep it going. Then, after a few minutes the car is fine. It's only when the car is cold I have the problem. I had some hoses replaced, plugs, dist cap, and the 0/2 sensor. What could be the cause ?

Check the BIG hose from the AFM (Air Flow Meter on the side of the filter box) to the throttle body. If there are holes, they would probably be on the bottom side of the hose, so take it out, and check it well. A vacuum leak can cause havoc. Also, check to see that the oil filler cap is securely on, and that the dip stick is sealing well. On the e cars, there's an idle control valve but the i series cars don't have it.

Check ALL hoses... one lousy leak can ruin your day.
