Hi Guys

My BMW E36 was stolen a good while back, & I am missing driving a BMW, was considering a 530 diesel, is there a buyers guide? or things to avoid?heard mixed reports about the steptronic, any advice is greatly appreciated

Let me share with you my experience driving a 2003 530TDi with Steptronic transmission. In May of 2003, I rented the car from SIXT in Germany and drove for 930 kms. My friend and I regularly hit 130 mph (=208 kph) and the car was very stable. Even with very aggresive driving, we averaged 31.95 miles per gallon (=7.3liters per 100km). It was absolutely a dream car, especially when travelling on the Autbahn without speed limit. The diesel engine is very powerful, smooth and quiet. For the three days trip, the car could not have performed better. I only wish such diesel models would be available in the US.

For sharing your experience, I am a total petrol head, but after driving BMW diesels, & the price of petrol & I am coming round .......
