Basement sub-projects:
1) finish sheetrock
I knew this was a big project, so I hired a guy, Joe, to do the work. He did the 'rock in my garage as well a few years ago and does a very nice job.
Initially I was holding him up since I didn't have the shower installed and the bathroom insulated, and the hallway shear wall installed(7/16" osb), now that those are done, he has finished getting the 'rock up, and will start taping the seams today, Thursday.
He should be done by the 9th, and I have a guy starting on the 11th to do the trim work.
Just gotta get some primer on there in between.
2) re-route main floor bathtub drain around basement bathroom door!
The drain from upstairs was running right through the path of the basement bathroom sliding door:

now the door opens all the way, that's a good thing:
3) as I was working on the basement remodel, I noticed that the sill plate of the walls was just sitting on top of the foundation. I remembered Cher telling me about the earthquake she worked a long time ago where the houses that received a lot of damage did so because they fell off their foundations!

I started researching seismic retrofitting, hired a structural engineer to come out and give me his opinion, and installed a bunch of anchors into the concrete: The small one in the middle is a 1/2" redhead anchor, with a nylock locking nut on top, and a 2" square bearing plate to distribute the load.

The structural engineer spec'd 1/2" anchor every 48", I went overkill with my new Bosch SDS driver and installed them every 12" !!!

The special angle pieces go at each end of a portion of the cripple wall, they are called 'pre-deflected hold-downs', they help keep that piece of wall tied together and vertical:

Then you add "shear wall" so the cripple wall (aka knee wall, aka stub wall) won't "diamond" or "rack" or, in layman's terms, fall over:
Next you add connecting plates, to keep the main floor studs tied to the cripple wall, a Simpson Strong Tie LTP4 is what my local Home Depot had:

4) heating to bathroom and bedroom#1
When I had my framing inspection done, the inspector said, "if these are bedrooms and a bath, where is the heat?"
I had heat in the hallway and bedroom #2, but needed to add to the others.
Found that there is a 6" duct going to the upstairs bathroom just above the basement bath. I removed the 90 degree elbow and installed a 6" T fitting, then added a downward facing outlet into the bathroom. It happens to point in the lap of a person sitting on the toilet, oh well, should keep them toasty!
This one in bedroom#1 I just added the duct and outlet. The other end of the duct is laying in the crawl space at the moment, I'll get it hooked up soon

Drywall was finished today, Friday 9/8. Start painting with Primer on Saturday.
Trim work starts on Monday 9/11, should be done Friday 9/15.
Final paint that weekend and then just the floors to finish.
