A while back ago Spike Lee had a film...Crooklyn...I believe it was... Line in the film is "so hot the pavement melts." Now, NYC in summer is hot as a freak in heat. I recall from mid June to mid August 1988 that every day the temp was over 90 and the humidity was over 90. That's every day. By the end of July I was able to wave my hand through the air and actually cut a swath through the moisture. Really. And I and my neighbors took to wearing actual bathing suits around town. Really.

Now...last week the temps were were between 95 and 100. The humidity was over 85 percent. Hottie hot hotski. Been using my a/c all the time. So hot that the joint didn't cool off (outside) either at all or till 5 in the morning. That's sucky hot.

Also...one must expect this in a NYC summer. It's not unusual for this heat wave and humidity wave to happen during summers. It usually cools off 10 degrees at the beach like at let's say Rockaway Beach.

So what's different...here's what's different. The thermometer in my bmw is way above 100 when driving around town. I can't remember when the temps were in the 90's before AND the car thermometer is over 100. That usually stayed in the high nineties.

Cooled off today but still humid. Very humid. If you like humidity and heat and want to spend a week in nyc I'll trade you for a week at that beach house in Malibu.

than ku bery much

It is 10 minutes to 7pm and it is 77 degrees. A heavy shower blew over us this afternoon and cooled things down. Some of the northern cities are hotter than here but we are in the midst of the summer shower season so things are quite pleasant, alternating between bright sun and heavy cloud burst. Unless distrupted by hurricane, this would be the weather pattern for the foreseeable future.

Well...since this post went up a few things have happened. First is I became aware of the 120 degree temps in California; Secondly, my buddy in Boulder Colorado tell me he's experienceing 99 degree days...which are quite unusual for this mountain community and thirdly, tomorrow, in NYC we are expecting a thermometer reading of 105 degrees. And I can't ever recall a reading that high. And we do get a huge amount of humidity here. I can't wait till tomorrow! So all of this is unusual. Very unusual. I can't imagine why it's becomming so freaking hot. Also can't imagine why there's so much extreme weather with flooding all around the nation. I just don't have a clue.

I knew the truth would come out sooner or later.
Something must really be wrong with the weather.

There's nothing really wrong with the weather...

"I knew the truth would come out sooner or later. Something must really be wrong with the weather."...

It's really the free market at work. And, I might add, unfettered by the obstructionist, socialist, crypto communist, atheist, low life dawgs who seek to hinder the greatness of free will and who seek destruction of our freedoms.

Only thing not free is air conditioning.
Too bad. You're broke or elderly and suffering. It's free.

Ya, too bad. Don't forget some arbitrary guy named Joe Schmuckatelli that lives in springfield, MA which John kerry and algore know on a first name basis. You know, they're good friends and all.

Anyway, this Joe guy (what was his name again? ...read card..) worked in a fish shop all his life. Yes, clyde was a hard worker. I mean Joe yeah.
And now because of THIS ADMINISTRATION his air conditioner doesn't work and he's gonna DIE!!!!

Yes, and because of THIS ADMINISTRATION, it's sooooo hot. It would never have been this hot if algore had been elected. I mean, if Bush hadn't STOLEN!!! the election from him.

So when Bobby here... i mean Joe, my good friend here DIES from lack of air conditioning and high gas prices because of THIS ADMINISTRATIONS EVIL WAR we know who's to blame.

Mr. Green

It is actually a lot cooler this summer than last summer. Most temps last summer were in the high 120s with the occasional couple of days breaking the 130 mark. This year, we've had some hot days, but not much over the 120 mark with most days between 105-110. I definitely prefer the cooler weather this year.

I wonder if you guys prefer hot to cold...

In Boston, I remember -20 days...and when I was at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, we had a 4 day snap of -50...I saw a dude get frost bite while we put up the flag.

In Vegas I saw 110 for a few weeks,,,,,and I gotta say, for me, hot is better than cold..
