Hey BMW Race Fans!
Come out on Sunday June 6th and cheer on your favorite Unofficialbmw.com racing team!

Time: No earlier then 2:10pm for me in Group1 on Sunday 06/06, Group5 runs at 4:50
Location: http://www.portlandraceway.com/location.asp
Cost: No cost for pit or spectator passes.
Info: Print out this PDF if you come, it has the schedule and other handy info: http://www.icscc.com/forms/CSCC_june_race_2004.pdf

BMWs race in Group1, Group2(318i), and Group5, so you'll see some BMWs on the track about 1/2 of the afternoon.
We are using the ProPits this year, which are in the center of the race track. You have to wait to cross the track between sessions.
There are stands near both sides of the crossing point, these are some of the best places to view the action.
I'll be setup probably in a grassy area with a bunch of other BMWs. You can probably ask almost any BMW race car owner or crew member and they will know where I or the Hill Brothers are. Yes, I know, Hills and Dale.

No crashes yet for the BMW crowd. Although Stan did manage an off track excursion.

Between my mirror falling off, and breaking the left rear wheel lugs (again!) I haven't put in a decent qualifying time yet.

We'll post again tonight with more results.

Lou rented Greg Hinkel's car, so the yellow beast is back on the track. Greg isn't running today but hopes to next week at Mission.

============
Greg H loaned me some wheel studs so I was able to get the car functional before Sunday morning qualifying. I didn't know what to expect when I went out Sunday morning on a damp track with near slick Toyos on. It was like ice out there for me with my suspension set super-stiff, so I bagged it after only 1 hot lap.

For the afternoon we all watched and worried about the weather. It was pouring during the drivers meeting at 12:30 and by 1:00 it had blown over and felt a little warm and we had some sun, then by 1:30 it rained again, oh the decisions!
Rain tires or slicks? What to do??

I chose to run my rain tires and soften up my suspension just a little bit, not go full soft. An intermediate setup if you will.
Our first few laps were in the rain and then it was raining on the back straight by turns 10/11/12 and dry and sunny for the fast turn 4!

My setup worked well for me, managable in the rain, and not too slow in the dry. Towards the end of our Group 1 race, it was actually dry most of the way around the track, then for the last 2 laps, the heavens opened up and we could barely see the car in front of us! I took first in Pro3 and Greg Miller came in second.

A highly modified BMW 320i crashed on the front straight during qualifying, number #35. The driver got out by himself and seemed OK from what I could see. That was most significant accident I saw all weekend, in spite of the screwy weather.

I'm sure Sage will be getting home soon and will give us an update on his race. I know he got pole position for his class!! Way to go Sage! http://www.unsage.com
