I have an e36 M3 (97). My climate control seems to turn on and off on it's own. The motor seems a little louder then normal also. Anyone ever heard of this? Also...if I was to purchase a used unit, what is involved in programming the control to work in my car?

Check the E36 board, there is ap thread there dealing with exactly your problem. I think it was narrowed down to either a faulty harness or a faulty connector on the unit itself . The E36 board deals with M3s just as much as other E36s, check it out, it seems to be the most popular forum on this site.
