I was going to install a factory alarm in my 2000 M Roadster myself. The local BMW dealer told me that I still would have to bring it in and let them "code it" at a cost of $80.00. Is this true? Why would he have to code it, what is that?

I think they mean giving you the key with the buttons to arm/disarm the alarm. These keys can only be supplied through the dealer and from what I've read $80 sounds cheap.
