My personal order of preference is (1) Balo (only German brake rotor mfg
with its own foundry..nicest finish..very high quality standards) (2)
Factory BMW (they are now being sourced out of Germany) (3) ATE Power Disks
(with the slots...available for front rotors only and not all models-made in
Germany-nice concept...not sure if they;re any more effective at heat
dissipation) (4) all others...the regular ATE's (made in Italy) are garbage
in my opinion. If you buy these, they should run approx $10 less per rotor
than the first 3 choices. There are exceptions to the
above...for example, the factory LW 2pc rotors are the top choice for the
E36. Best price I've seen on these is $350pr through Mitch Herman who
brought in 15 sets of these 2 weeks ago (I think he has an ad in the
upcoming Roundel).
Regarding cross drilling...forget it. This is mainly for show. There's a
local VW mail order house (Rapid Parts) that drops stock VW Brembo rotors
off at my machine shop to be drilled. These and most stock rotors are just
too thin to be cross drilled (my opinion). SD
